Gigi Graham has three major goals: qualify for the women's national hockey team, win Olympic gold, and finally step out of the shadow of her famous father, legendary hockey player Garrett Graham. She's already an accomplished college athlete, but making the national team will require her to take her game to another level.

There's only one problem.

Gigi needs help improving her game behind the net, and the person who may be able to help her most is the last person she wants to ask.

Luke Ryder is tall, talented, opinionated, and famously difficult. He's also one of Briar's new hockey co-captains after the men's team merges with a rival program. The merger leaves Ryder dealing with an angry group of players who don't exactly trust one another, while he tries to prove that he deserves the coaching opportunity he's been chasing.

Gigi and Ryder don't exactly get along.

In fact, their first interactions make it clear that they're much more likely to argue than become friends. But they both have something the other wants. Gigi needs Ryder's hockey expertise, while Ryder desperately wants a recommendation from Gigi's legendary father, Garrett Graham.

So they make a deal.

Ryder will help Gigi improve her skills and get closer to her goal of making the national team. In exchange, Gigi will put in a good word for Ryder with her father and help him pursue the coaching opportunity he wants.

On paper, it's a perfect arrangement.

In reality, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

The more time Gigi and Ryder spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore the attraction between them. Their competitive relationship starts turning into something far more complicated, and every training session seems to bring another spark of chemistry neither of them is prepared to acknowledge.

Gigi is determined to prove that she is more than just Garrett Graham's daughter. She has spent years living with the expectations that come with her family name, and her ambitions are important to her because they belong entirely to her.

Ryder understands what it feels like to fight for recognition. He has his own reputation to overcome, particularly after making a terrible first impression on the man whose approval he desperately wants. His relationship with Gigi forces him to confront both his ambitions and the possibility that there may be more to his connection with her than their original bargain.

As their deal continues, the boundaries between teammates, rivals, friends, and something much more begin to disappear. What starts as a practical agreement develops into a relationship filled with banter, tension, vulnerability, and undeniable chemistry.

But getting involved with someone who is supposed to be your rival comes with risks. Both Gigi and Ryder have careers and dreams they're unwilling to sacrifice, and neither knows what will happen when the arrangement that brought them together stops being just an arrangement.

The Graham Effect is the first book in Elle Kennedy's Campus Diaries series and serves as a next-generation spin-off of the popular Off-Campus and Briar U books. It brings the familiar college hockey setting into a new generation while introducing Gigi and Ryder as the central couple.

With its combination of college hockey, ambitious athletes, family expectations, grumpy-sunshine energy, rivals-to-lovers tension, humor, emotional moments, and plenty of heat, The Graham Effect is a strong choice for readers who love addictive sports romances where two competitive people discover that the person they can't stand may be the person they can't resist.
