Before you pick a device

  1. Check the inbox you used at checkout for an email from The Book Digital Store with the subject line about your purchase. If it's not there within a few minutes, check your Spam, Junk, or Promotions folder.
  2. Open that email and find the Download Your PDF button or link — everything below picks up right after you tap or click it.
  3. Know which device you want the book on, then jump to that section using the tabs below.

iPhone

Mail app or Safari · iOS 15 and newer
~2 min · easy
  1. Open the Mail app (or Gmail/Outlook if that's what you use) and open the email from The Book Digital Store.

  2. Tap the download link or button in the email. It will open the PDF right in the Mail preview or in Safari. If Safari asks whether to open or download, choose the option to open it.

  3. With the PDF on screen, tap the Share icon — the square with an arrow pointing up, usually at the bottom or top of the screen.

  4. From the share sheet, tap Save to Files.

  5. Choose a location — On My iPhone or iCloud Drive both work fine — then tap Save.

  6. To read it any time, open the Files app and look in the folder you picked. Tapping the PDF opens it directly.

Want it in Apple Books instead? From the same share sheet in step 4, choose Copy to Books instead of Save to Files — it'll appear in your Apple Books library alongside your other reading.

Android Phone

Chrome browser · most Android versions
~2 min · easy
  1. Open your email app and find the message from The Book Digital Store.

  2. Tap the download link or button. On most phones this downloads the PDF automatically and shows a small "Download complete" notification.

  3. If it opens in Chrome instead of downloading right away, tap the download icon (a downward arrow) in the address bar, or open the ⋮ menu and tap Download.

  4. Tap the notification, or open your Files app (sometimes called "My Files" or "Files by Google") and go to the Downloads folder.

  5. Tap the PDF to open it. If asked which app to use, any PDF reader or Google Drive works well.

Don't have a PDF reader installed? Search "PDF reader" or "Adobe Acrobat Reader" in the Google Play Store — both are free.

iPad

Kindle

E-ink Kindles (Paperwhite, Oasis, basic) and Kindle Fire tablets
~5 min · easy
Two kinds of Kindle, two methods. A Kindle Fire is a full tablet and works like the Android tablet steps above. A regular e-ink Kindle (Paperwhite, Oasis, entry-level Kindle) doesn't browse email well, so Amazon's "Send to Kindle" tool is the easiest path — steps below.
  1. First, save the PDF on your phone or computer using the matching steps elsewhere on this page — you'll need the file, or the email itself, for the next step.

  2. Find your Kindle's email address: on the Kindle, go to Settings → Your Account, and look for Send-to-Kindle E-mail. It looks like yourname_123@kindle.com.

  3. From the email address you used to buy the book, either forward the original purchase email to that address, or send a new email with the saved PDF attached.Amazon only accepts files from approved sender emails — add your address under "Approved Personal Document E-mail List" in your Amazon account if it's rejected.

  4. Make sure your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi. The book will appear on the home screen automatically, usually within a few minutes.

No Wi-Fi, or the email won't send? Connect your Kindle to your computer with its USB cable, open it like a USB drive, and drag the PDF straight into the documents folder.

Windows Laptop

Chrome or Edge · Windows 10 and 11
~2 min · easy
  1. Open the email from The Book Digital Store in your browser or mail app (Outlook, Gmail, etc.).

  2. Click the download link or button. Most browsers download the PDF straight away and show it at the bottom or top of the window.

  3. Click that downloaded file to open it — it'll open right in the browser's built-in PDF viewer, or in Adobe Acrobat Reader if you have it installed.

  4. Can't find it? Open File Explorer, click Downloads in the left sidebar, and look for the file — it's usually named after the book.

Want to choose where it saves? In Chrome, go to Settings → Downloads and turn on "Ask where to save each file before downloading" — then you'll get a Save As window every time.

Mac Laptop

Safari or Chrome · macOS Monterey and newer
~2 min · easy
  1. Open the email from The Book Digital Store in Mail or your browser.

  2. Click the download link or button — the PDF downloads automatically to your Downloads folder.

  3. Click the download arrow icon in the toolbar (top right of Safari or Chrome) to see it, then click the file to open it.

  4. It opens in Preview by default, where you can read it, zoom, and even add notes or highlights.

Keeping your library tidy? Drag the PDF from Downloads into a dedicated "Books" folder in Finder, or into iCloud Drive, so it's easy to find later.

Chromebook

ChromeOS · any Chromebook
~2 min · easy
  1. Open the email from The Book Digital Store in Gmail or your browser.

  2. Click the download link or button. The PDF downloads and a small tray pops up at the bottom of the screen.

  4. To find it again later, open the Files app and check the Downloads folder.

Still stuck?

A few things that solve almost every download hiccup we hear about.

I never received the email
Check your Spam, Junk, or Promotions folder first — that's where it lands most often. If it's genuinely missing, search your inbox for "thedigitalbookstore.com," then reach out to us with your order number and we'll resend it right away.
The download link says it's expired or already used
Download links are only valid for a limited time and number of uses to keep your purchase secure. Contact support with your order number and we'll issue a fresh link, no charge.
The PDF downloaded but won't open
This almost always means the device doesn't have a PDF reader installed yet. Adobe Acrobat Reader is free on every platform in this guide and opens PDFs from any bookstore, not just ours.
Can I put the same book on more than one device?
Yes — once you have the PDF saved on one device, you can move it to another using AirDrop, email, a cloud drive like iCloud or Google Drive, or a USB cable. You don't need to re-download it from scratch each time.
My device isn't listed here
The steps for most other tablets, phones, and computers closely match the closest match above — Android-based e-readers behave like the Android tablet section, and other e-ink readers behave like the Kindle section. If you're ever unsure, contact support and describe your device — we're happy to walk you through it.

Reading It Comfortably

Once the PDF is open, a few taps make it feel less like a phone screen and more like a good book. Tap your device below.

iPhone & iPad
  1. Double-tap the page to zoom in. Double-tap anywhere on a PDF page and it zooms into that spot — double-tap again to zoom back out.

  2. Pinch to fine-tune the zoom. Spread two fingers apart for a custom zoom level, especially useful on small print or detailed images.

  3. Use the "Aa" button for reflowable books. In Apple Books, tap "Aa" to change font size, style, and page theme (white, sepia, or black).

  4. Turn on Dark Mode for evening reading. Settings → Display & Brightness → Dark, or swipe into Control Center and enable Night Shift.

  5. Match brightness to the room. Open Control Center and adjust the slider, or turn on True Tone so it adjusts automatically.

Android Phone & Tablet
  1. Double-tap to zoom into the page. Works in Google Play Books, the Kindle app, and most built-in PDF viewers — double-tap again to return to the full page.

  2. Pinch to zoom for precise control. Spread two fingers apart to zoom in smoothly, or pinch together to zoom back out.

  3. Change font size and theme with the "Aa" menu. In Google Play Books, tap the screen, then "Aa," to adjust font, spacing, and background color.

  4. Switch on Dark Theme or Night Light. Settings → Display → Dark Theme, and Night Light to reduce blue light in the evening.

Kindle & E-Readers
  1. Tap "Aa" to resize text instantly. Tap the top of the screen for the menu, then "Aa," to adjust font size, typeface, line spacing, and margins.

  2. Zoom into images with a tap and pinch. For image-heavy or fixed-layout pages, tap the image to bring up a magnifying tool, then pinch to zoom.

  3. Use the front-light and warm-light sliders. On backlit Kindles, open Quick Actions and adjust brightness plus the amber "warm light" tone for evening reading.

  4. Turn on Page Refresh to prevent ghosting. In Settings → Reading Options, enable Page Refresh so the screen fully redraws every few pages.

Windows, Mac & Chromebook
  1. Zoom with keyboard shortcuts. Press Ctrl and "+" (or Cmd and "+" on Mac) to zoom in, Ctrl/Cmd and "-" to zoom out, and Ctrl/Cmd and "0" to reset.

  2. Switch to a dark reading theme. Toggle dark mode from your browser or Preview's View menu, or from your system-wide Dark Mode setting.

  3. Match your screen to the room. Lower the brightness a notch below what feels "normal" during long reading sessions to ease eye strain.

  4. Have your computer read it aloud. Try macOS's built-in Speech (Edit → Speech → Start Speaking) or Windows Narrator / Edge's Immersive Reader.
